You can also get nearly all of the way by train using Eurostar and then the TGV.  The nearest TGV stop to us is Chatellerault although Poitiers has a much greater timetable choice.  Car hire is next to the station.

Ferry crossings - take your pick from Calais, Le Havre, Dieppe, St Malo etc!  Fom Calais we are about a six hour drive.  From St Malo we are about 4 hours.
